Thank you for visiting Solarfri Flower Farm.  I am Kelly McNeill and I live just outside of Greensboro, NC on a small farm that's around 4 acres.  I have been a registered nurse for over 20 years.  I have always enjoyed being outdoors, however, my career in nursing, where there is a great scarcity of windows or fresh air, led me to a life of longing.  I longed to be outside any chance I had.  I hated being indoors, loved the sun on my face and sought any opportunity to be in nature.  So when I spotted a for sale by owner sign in the yard of a cute little yellow farmhouse just outside the city, I just knew we had to take a look.  The house was beautifully decorated, so much so that my husband still says I was blinded by the Joanna Gaines feel of it all.  But in all honesty, it was the view into the backyard that I fell in love with.  You see, it was filled with the most beautiful hydrangeas, rudbeckia, roses and peonies and farm animals.  I was in love, so we bought the proverbial farm.

Fast forward to a few years later while headed on a family vacation, I picked up the book, Cut Flower Garden by Erin Benzakein.  For those that don't know me, I AM NOT A READER.  I have the attention span of a housefly and can honestly say that I may have read 4 books in my lifetime.  That's nothing I'm proud of, but it will help you to understand why I started Solarfri Flower Farm.

10 hours later on a plane and I had finished, I repeat finished, the entire book.  It was then that I knew exactly what I had to do.  This began nothing short of an obsession with all things flowers.  I started reading everything I could about flowers, soil, seeds, bouquet making...you name it, I read it.  And so my journey began.

I named my flower farm Solarfri, pronounced solar-free, which is an Icelandic term for "Sun Vacation."  This is truly how I feel every time I am outside in the flower field.  Growing flowers is hard, with its sweaty, labor-intensive and often back-breaking chores, but it is the sun vacation that I have needed for years!

My hope is that you will enjoy the flowers from Solarfri Flower Farm as much as I enjoy growing them.
